Ticknor (William D.) is born in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

William Ticknor arrives in Boston in 1832 and soon becomes Boston’s most important book publisher, subsequently entering into partnerships with James Fields and others. He also becomes publisher of The Atlantic Monthly and the North American Review. Ticknor dies in Philadelphia on April 10, 1864.
